Our online publicist, Krista Clayton, sends books and press materials to online contacts like website editors and bloggers to secure book reviews and/or online interviews with you. Here are some ways you can help her develop an appropriate online presence for your book:

  • If you are interested in writing new articles and/or adapting material from your book for particular websites, please contact Krista to let her know. She will be happy to pitch your ideas to various editors or make the necessary introductions for you.
  • If you are online, do some searches for websites relating to the topic of your book and pass the information along to Krista, who will try to promote your book there.

Amazon

There are several ways to promote your book on Amazon.com.

  • Have interested folks request the book in Kindle at the print site and place preorders for the book.
  • Look up your book at Amazon.com and enter "I'm the author" comments or ask a few of your "influences" or other readers to write reviews of your book there.
  • Ask your friends to write good reviews of your book and post early to Amazon.

Blogging

If you have a website or blog, mention your book and book-related news as appropriate. Consider posting the book cover with the release date about 4 months before the book's release with a link to IVP's website or Amazon.com in order to generate awareness and (hopefully) pre-orders. Include endorsements and book reviews as they become available. Be sure to announce the book's release and update your site/blog with any information about your speaking and book signings. Make sure that readers have a way of contacting you. Also offer an RSS feed which makes it easy to update your subscribers regularly.

If you have a decent blogroll (number of friends/contacts whose blogs you read), consider asking a select group if they would be willing to all blog about your book on the same day. This can bump up your ratings significantly on Google searches.

If you do not think that you can commit to blogging several times a week, then it is probably not worth it to set up a blog. Consult with the online publicist to determine if there are blogs where you could offer an occasional contribution or be part of a group of bloggers instead. You could also consider joining someone else's more established online community by making regular comments on a few well-known blogs; try to be as considerate and insightful as possible so that your name engenders positive connotations!

E-mail

Add a signature line on your e-mail that mentions your book, as well as anywhere else you can be found online (website, blog, Facebook page, Twitter, etc.).

Social media can be a great way to connect with your readers and get the word out about your book. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+ and others can offer unique ways to share your message. Visit our social media page to see a few suggestions we put together for how you might use social media for your book promotion, along with some tips and best practices.

YouTube and Vimeo

Post videos related to you and/or the book as you have them to YouTube and Vimeo. Then post the links on your Facebook page, blog or website and/or in an e-mail to let people know about your new post.
