The Idea

The idea for www.QuestioningFaith.com was born out of a book, Walking Away from Faith, written by Ruth Tucker, a longtime "questioner" who teaches at Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan. During her research for the book, Ruth interviewed dozens of men and women struggling with questions about the existence of God, the goodness of God, the integrity of the church, the reality of spiritual experience, and more. She realized that what most people needed was space and time to talk—to voice doubts and fears, to tell stories, to wrestle in dialogue with others who had "been there" before. Providing a haven for questioners is what she aims to do with this website.

How it Works

If you are struggling with some aspect of Christian faith, write to Ruth! She will respond to you personally by e-mail. (Your e-mail address and any other personal information you share will be kept confidential; it will not be used for any purpose other than Ruth's dialogue with you.) Ruth may ask you for permission to post your conversation on this website if she feels it could be beneficial to other "questioners." It is up to you whether or not to grant permission; if you do grant permission, you may request that your name be removed.

Challenge from Ruth

My challenge to unbelievers is that you reflect very seriously on what you are missing in your life of unbelief and ask yourself whether you are denying faith for all the wrong reasons—such as demanding proofs for a faith that is not founded on proof. The journey of faith is not for the faint of heart. It can sometimes seem like running an obstacle course through quicksand and swamps. Yet the rewards along the way—intangible through they may be—make the journey infinitely worthwhile.
