IVP - Mission Trip to Haiti with Kent Annan

Come on a Mission Trip to Haiti

Update In Light of the Haiti Earthquake

Kent Annan and Haiti Partners are actively assessing the situation in Port-au-Prince, with their other co-director in the city right now. We will update you with regards to the trip in the next week or two as things become more clear. At this point the trip is still planned to happen in May 2010, although the itinerary may vary somewhat based on the needs and opportunities available in Haiti at that time. If you want to submit an essay or video as an expression of concern or prayer for Haiti, we invite you to do that, though you'll understand that our focus right now is in Haiti. Meanwhile, we invite you to the Haiti Partners website for updates or if you want to give to the Earthquake Response Fund. Thank you for your flexibility, your concern, and your prayers.

Sincerly,
Kent Annan and InterVarsity Press

1 Check Out
the Trip

With Haiti Partners codirector Kent Annan as your guide, you'll spend five days in Haiti meeting with Haitian political, grassroots and business leaders, as well as Haiti Partners staff, to learn more about the situation there and find out how Christians can respond. You'll have prep time before you leave and we’ll discuss how to thoughtfully re-integrate and apply what you've learned when you return. And you'll even get a chance to stay for a couple of nights with a family in rural Haiti, which will be challenging but meaningful.

2 Enter

To enter, all you have to do is make a 2 to 3-minute video and post it to YouTube or write a 300-400 word essay that answers the question:

How are you personally challenged by Jesus' invitation to live more fully and love dangerously, and how could this trip be part of that?

Just read the contest rules, fill out the entry form, and paste a link to your video on YouTube or the text of your essay in the field at the bottom of the entry form. Entries must be submitted on or before February 15, 2010.

3 Go!

Six people will be chosen to receive an all-expenses paid*, 5 day trip to Haiti from Thursday, May 20 to Monday, May 24, 2010.

The trip will focus on the positive aspects of what's happening in Haiti today as the group travels through the country and spends time with Haitians. Trip participants will share daily reflection times based on Scripture as they grapple together through the issues and seek God's guidance on how to respond.

(*Note: The roundtrip flight from Miami to Port-au-Prince will be covered as part of the contest, but participants will be responsible for travel to and from their homes to Miami. Participants must also submit a fully-refundable $150.00 deposit to secure their place on the trip. See contest rules and fine print for more information.)

Meet Kent Annan

A few years ago, Kent Annan left behind his comfortable life in the U.S. to live in Haiti.

Now he's codirector of Haiti Partners, a non-profit organization with the mission to "help Hatians change Haiti through education."

In his book, Following Jesus Through the Eye of the Needle, Kent tells the story of his time in this difficult and beautiful country. He offers a fresh sense of what it means to love God and love our neighbor when love is uncomfortable, even dangerous; to see what happens when God stretches us beyond our borders into his kingdom.
