InterVarsity Press

InterVarsity Press Certified as a 2009 U.S. Best Christian Workplace

For Immediate Release (February 2009)

The Best Christian Workplaces Institute (BCWI), a research-based organizational and human resources consulting firm, announced that InterVarsity Press is included in its 2009 list of certified workplaces in the U.S.

"The Best Christian Workplaces survey consistently reveals that Christian employees appreciate God-glorifying relationships shaped by the fruit of the Spirit," explained Al Lopus, president of the BCWI. "InterVarsity Press was no exception; one employee put it this way: when asked what they appreciated most about InterVarsity Press they responded, "Unity in Spirit . . . all followers of Jesus Christ . . . reflected in the way we work together, speak to each other, solve problems."

IVP was one of 56 companies in the country selected for this honor. The 2009 survey involved more than 11,000 employees in 113 organizations across the U.S. to identify great workplaces with a Christian mission and/or Christian values. In order to be certified, organizations must complete the Best Christian Workplaces Institute Employee Engagement survey and meet predetermined standards of excellence. The survey covers such issues as job satisfaction, organizational commitment, Christian witness, supervisory effectiveness, work satisfaction, personal growth and development, management effectiveness, customer/supporter satisfaction, teamwork, communication, and pay and benefits. Two major factors that contributed to IVP receiving the certification were employee involvement in company decisions and meeting performance goals for 2008.

"InterVarsity Press is encouraged and thankful for this recognition from BCWI because it directly reflects on the quality and commitment of everyone who works at IVP," stated publisher Bob Fryling. "IVP has received this high recognition for each of the five times it has participated in the survey. But the recognition this year is especially meaningful due to the challenging financial and publishing environment."
