1 Chronicles 15:1—16:6: Joyful Celebration
THE BACKYARD WEDDING two doors away was getting noisy. It was late; everybody was singing. Fortunately, the couple seemed to have all musical friends and family, because the sound was glorious. It must have been a similar event when David and the priests and singers brought the ark of the covenant to its new place in Jerusalem in a noisy, joyful procession.
Warming Up to God
What makes you feel like celebrating the Lord?
Read 1 Chronicles 15:1—16:6. »
Discovering the Word
- Before this, the ark of the covenant was in temporary lodging. It had never been in Jerusalem. How did King David make preparations for bringing it into his new capital (15:1-15)?
- What was the importance of singing as the ark was moved (15:16-22)?
- How did David conduct himself during the procession (15:25-29)?
- If you had been an observer there, what would you have thought of the king?
- Why do you think Michal, one of David's wives, reacted negatively (15:29)?
- In what ways did they celebrate when they got the ark inside the tent (16:1-6)?
Applying the Word
- How do you feel about unrestrained celebration by Christians in worship?
- How open are you to worship styles different from the one you prefer?
- What helps you to express your joy in the Lord?
Responding in Prayer
